I believe that aging to me is like losing your best self. When younger we feel fresh and energetic. We have the energy and the capacity to accomplish goals. As we know when we get older physically our body breaks down.  That’s scary because I’m 34 and I can’t imagine playing basketball with young 20-year-olds i might get embarrassed. I’m not the same player physically.  Now financially I hope I don’t get taken advantage of from those I hold close. I hear so many stories about that.
I want to be in the best shape possible. I want to continue to travel the world. By doing so I want to keep up with my health by taking advantage of my doctor’s appointments and eating right. According to the CARA model of aging, building resilience using Generalized Resistance Resources (GRRs) involves proactive financial and making sure I have that emotional and spiritual support.

An article I found is “Physical Limitations, Disability, and Quality of Life Among Older Adults: A Comprehensive Review”. This article reviews the effects of physical limitations on the quality of life for older adults. It examines the connection between physical disabilities and several factors, such as social participation, mental health, and healthcare access. The results emphasize the significance of community support and customized interventions to enhance the well-being of older adults experiencing physical challenges.

    Devontae,

I am hoping that when you read some of the material from Aronson and Cruikshank that you saw more in aging than “losing your best self.”. I believe that we change in many ways as we age, but if you really see “experience,” as you said in the Perusall discussion, I would think you might see your aging self as “experienced” and valued, not just the loss of your best self.

Your reference from the CARA model is accurate, but I am not at all sure exactly what that means to you. What is “proactive financial” and what would spiritual and emotional support look like to you?

The article you read may be excellent, but I expect much more than simply repeating the summary from the abstract. I can’t tell form that paragraph if you read it and what exactly you thought was valuable from it. What is the significance of these factors? What are the connections they found?

You again didn’t include an image and your were late in your submission. I want to be able to give you honest feedback so you can improve in your submissions and do well during the semester. If you have any questions, just let me know and I am happy to help.

    Dr P
