1. Try and put yourself in the situation of truly having to deal with the fearful situation you selected
in question #3.

First, describe how this problematic aging situation might impact you physically,
emotionally, socially, and financially.

When it comes to thinking about my problematic aging situation and how it might impact me in multiple different ways, I think back to what I said within question three of the blog one, the fear of being stressed and constantly dealing with outside pressure weighs greatly on my mind. Emotionally and physically it would wear me down quite a lot, too much stress and sadness both can impact emotions and physical health. Stress especially would be a main concern for me, because as a black woman we are more prone to stress attacking our health than most. Socially, I think there would be an impact but not to same caliber that it does for the others. I would most likely be more reserved due to the stress and strain but would most likely still communicate with others on a day to day basis. Financially I believe that would be the worst impact within my problematic aging situation, not being able to be content and having to worry about outside factors such as economic issues. That alone would be a large impact on me financially, simply for the factor of having to worry and spend money to keep myself afloat.

Next, describe your initial feelings about this condition.
2. Considering the problematic situation that you selected, how would this situation change your
imagined ideal life as an older adult? For example, what might be very different (stay the same)?

When it comes to the problematic situation that I have selected it would change my ideal life quite a lot, my ideal later life is to be content and worry free. With the description I gave above, I don’t think I will be content if my situation would to accrue, While there is the ability to possibly work through and push pass my problematic aging situation. It would take time and would require me to put all hands on deck instead of being more laidback then I intended to be.

3. Think about the CARA model of aging and talk about the GRRs that would help you to manage
this problematic situation to achieve resilience. What would resilience look like in this
situation?

When it comes to what resilience looks like within my situation, it would required two important factors. Resilience would include making sure I do not succumb to the stress that will present its self within my situation. I would need to assess my situation and understand that it is not an ending all situation. Resilience within my situation is understanding and hope and I would continue to use both to overcome to this situation if it had happened to me.

4. Using an appropriate database, find one peer-reviewed article on the problematic topic you
identified. Provide a summary of the articles and discuss how it added to your knowledge about
the topic. Reference the articles in APA format.

The article I have chosen is written and presented by the American Psychological Association. Within this article, they measure a handful of elders between the ages 60-88 years old and measure things such as physical health, social support, and stressful life events. When reading through the article and near the end, it is shown that those with high levels of social support had a reduced negative impact of stress on their mental health compared to those with a lower social support. (APA, 1986). It added further knowledge by showing that elder or later life with higher socialization and support are able to overcome and or avoid negative impacts such as stress to take a large toll upon them. Which helps further extended my knowledge on the importance of socializing and community for later life as well.

    Hi Allison,
I enjoyed reading your post! I agree that stress can have a significant negative impact on one’s physical and mental well-being, and that anxieties about money certainly make it more difficult to feel secure as one ages. Resilience is a practical and constructive approach to overcoming obstacles, and I appreciate how you defined it as having hope and understanding. Another excellent reminder of the need of social support in lowering stress and maintaining health as one ages was provided by the article you shared.

    Allison,

The posts are not a question and answer format. The idea is that they are a mini-paper and should be written that way. I already know the questions. The idea is that you are writing a coherent post and making sure that you are including the information in the assignment.

I read your first paragraph and I still don’t know what the problematic aging situation you are referring to. I get that it is related to stress and outside pressures, but what is the aging situation you are discussing? Is it just getting older itself?

Then when you get to reslieince – and the discussion of GRRs, you don’t mention any of them. You basically just say that you will need to have resilience. I am wondering if you read the article on the CARA model or listened to my video? Not accusing, just asking.

And finally, your article is from 1986. I would have to suggest that there are numerous options for you to choose from and an article from 1986 isn’t a good choice.
